Im looking to switch internet security suites. I have Norton Internet 2007 right now, but I haven’t been satisfied with the protection I have received, or lack there of. I have a few in mind, such as Trend Micro PC-Cillin. Any advice or opinions would be appreciated.

These sound like the symptoms for this particular strain of virus as it takes over executable files and your use of Internet Explorer. You need to start Windows in safe mode (which involves pressing the F8 key before Windows starts). A USB keyboard should be functional at this point.
Failing that you will need a bootable CD (something like Ultimate Boot) to enable you to run a "safe" copy of Windows. After that you will need the appropriate knowledge for editing the Registry and running some virus removal software relevant to the particular virus. Unless you know what you are doing I would not advise it.

Very good point! One of our PCs on XP was running slow for a while, so we got a 1GB stick of RAM. It’s a lot less frustrating to work with plus we’re not wasting all that time waiting for the computer to decide whether or not it wants to do something!
